The Ambroz river crosses right through Abadia which is found in the flatest area of the valley, with surpising views of the mountains.
It is a monumental community with great cultural richness. In addition to it’s medieval bridge, you can find the Sotofermoso Palace (that belonged to the Duke and Duchess of Alba). What stands out the most is the Moorish patio or the Renaissance gardens. Abadia was an important cultural center during the Renaissance era. Here is where internationally known writers of Lope de Vega wrote some of their most famous works.
The Bien Parada Convent from the XVII era also enhances the beauty of this lovely village. Even though it is now in ruins, you can see the remains that allow you to appreciate the elegant Baroque style from Asturias. From the Santo Domingo Church, you can appreciate the murals made from robust stone and the grand granite with which the bell tower was built.
In Abadia, besides the typical flat village architecture, you can appreciate the meadows, hunting reserves, and fishing areas.
